From the Officers - February 2012

From the East

First, congratulations to our newly initiated EAs. We look forward to seeing them in the lodge. This month is very special. 280 years ago this month, one of our great founding fathers and first president of the United States — better yet one of our great Lodge brothers — was born, George Washington. He commanded America’s war for independence between 1775 to 1783 and became the first president of the United States in 1789. Because of his central role in the founding of the United States, Washington is often referred to as the “Father of this Country.” His devotion to his country and civic virtue made him an exemplary figure.

Please come and join us at the Lodge to celebrate and remember this great brother. I would like to finish my article with a couple quotes from our distinguished brother;

“Freemasonry is founded on the immutable laws of truth and justice and its grand object is to promote the happiness of the human race.”

“Being persuaded that a just application of the principles, on which the Masonic Fraternity is founded, must be [the promotion] of private virtue and public prosperity, I shall always be happy to advance the interests of the Society, and to be considered by them as a deserving brother”

– George Washington

Fraternally,
Birant
Worshipful Master

From the West

There is a lot of writing about Masonry on the Internet. Much of it is absolutely horrible — senseless drivel of the worst sort. But there are quite a few gems. I’d like to share one of my favorites. Most of you may have already seen this, but new Masons may find this enlightening. Next time you’re in front of your computer, go visit this address:

http://nvmasons.org/antiquit.html

It is an article entitled “Antiquity of the Craft,” written by our own Worshipful Dale K. Porray, Grand WebMason and Past Master of Vegas Lodge #32. He presents a side-by-side comparison of the public ritual and prayers used in modern Nevada, and those that were used in London in 1796. It is quite remarkable to see how few differences there are!

Consider this: In 1796, George Washington was still serving his final year as president. Tennessee became the 16th state in the Union. A lot has changed since then, for better or worse. It is fascinating to see something that has changed so little.

Fraternally,
Dan
Senior Warden

From the South

Well we are off to the races already. It looks like it’s shaping up to be a busy year for Vegas 32 again. Congratulations to our new EA’s. We look forward to seeing you in Lodge as you advance. I would like to thank all the brothers who have been helping out in the kitchen. These guys really make life easy. Florian and Bob are doing a great job and deserve a pat on the back. I’m impressed by the quality of the work in the Lodge so far. Let’ keep it going. Sorry for the short post this month. I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given this year and I hope I can meet your expectations. As always I’ll close by saying “See you at lodge.”

Fraternally,
Chuck
Junior Warden

From the Secretary

Again, it will be a busy year with degree work and numerous events around the Lodge. By the time you receive this I will have and passed out the new keys for the building. It has taken a while, but mission accomplished. Also, this will be the month we will be honoring W. Bro. & President George Washington. I know that Worshipful Birant has a great program planned.

As always we are in the office to assist you in any way we possibly can. I look forward to working with each and every one of you again this year!

Fraternally,
Mark
Secretary
