From the Officers - October 2008
From the East
Our Fraternity is not for everybody, Brothers; Masons are different. Intelligent, caring men feel at home in our Order; the unthinking and the uncaring do not.
Every year, we in Vegas 32 confer Master Mason degrees on twenty candidates or more. Typically however, less than half of these stay on to become active members of the Lodge. And before the days of our coffee club it was even fewer!
Why is this? And why did the coffee club make a difference?
The reason is clear enough. By meeting each other socially, we and the candidates get to know one another before degrees are conferred, and those who wont fit in usually stop coming after a week or two.
It takes a LOT of work to investigate, ballot, initiate, pass, raise coach and examine a candidate until he becomes a Master Mason. Its important that this work is seen to bear fruit. Far better to keep ten having raised ten than to keep ten having raised twenty!
That means taking the time to identify the caring thinkers - the future of our Lodge and of our Order.
Fraternally,
Eugene

It is a great feeling to know you have brothers that you can count on for support and assistance, no matter how unpopular your decisions may be with them. The old saying, you cant please all the people all the time. is very true and we all experience it every day. It is nice to know that no matter how unpopular our decisions may be, we still support each other. Masonry is special for many reasons, but one not to be underestimated is the spirit of understanding.
See you at the Lodge!
Fraternally,

Did you all get enough to eat at the Barbecue last month?? I think with all the meals after the meetings, family dinners, and waffle Wednesdays plus Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday coffee club get-to-gathers we are the best fed groups in Vegas! If you are not part of it, you know who to blame. I know a lot of us have time constraints but once in a while try to do a little adjusting and make a few more meetings. You all made a lot of effort to become Master Masons and meet new friends. Come on back and enjoy your self.
By the way, The way to be happy is to make others happy!
Fraternally,
Stan

From the Secretary
As we wind down this year, I would like to say congratulations for a job well done. As you know a resolution is being proposed at Grand Lodge sessions in November to raise our Grand Lodge per capita fee by $10, it currently stands at $15. So, if this is approved at our sessions, our Grand Lodge assement for the year 2009 would be $25 plus dues of $20, bringing our total dues to $45. So, I will not be sending out dues notices until after our Grand Lodge sessions, or around 15th of November.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Lodge!
Fraternally,
Mark
Secretary
